Description
Description | "The Drunkards’ Marseillaise is a 90-min first creative documentary film written by Pablo Gil Rituerto and Alba Lombardia, co-produced between France, Spain and Italy. In the summer of 1961, a group of young Italian anthropologists made a clandestine journey through Spain, then under the dictatorship of General Franco, in order to record popular songs that supported resistance. As a result of their work, they were prosecuted and their recordings were censored. Sixty years later, we recover the unpublished recordings and a film crew reproduces their journey. Through the prism of oral memory and sound archives, the two journeys merge into an emotional and political geography of the Spanish territory where the wounds of Franco's regime are still open. The film highlights the echo with the complex political time in which we live, and how the rise of the extreme right throughout Europe brings to the surface the worst ghosts of the past. Three European production companies join forces to give the project the stature it deserves: the Spanish company BOOGALOO FILMS, the Italian company GRAFFITI DOCS and the French company LES FILMS DE L'ŒIL SAUVAGE. The objectives of the co-development are multiple. First, to ensure the restoration, digitization and clearance of the Italian archives recently made accessible, second to continue the writing, and finally to finance two weeks of location scouting in order to specify the filming locations, the contemporary characters, the reinterpretation of the songs by a new generation of singers and to record without delay the last witnesses. After that, the authors will have gathered the necessary material to elaborate a final script and to test the filmic device by editing a ""film sample"" of 10 to 15 minutes, showing the narrative articulation of the present and past journey, the songs and the archives. This visual material will allow us to present the project and to convince financing partners to commit to this first but ambitious film." |
