Description
Description | Europe is experiencing a shifting socio-economic landscape, marked by rising inequality, labour and skills shortages, and geopolitical instability. Despite EU-led initiatives to drive poverty down, inflation and persistent systemic socio-economic barriers are driving up the cost of living and deepening social and economic exclusion. Migrants living with an insecure or irregular status are particularly at risk but face additional challenges as they are generally excluded from the basic mechanisms of social protection. PICUM’s network of 158 members seeks to enhance social inclusion across EU member states to ensure that the most excluded groups, including undocumented adults and children, benefit from these efforts. PICUM aims to contribute to building a social Europe by expanding its evidence base about the impacts of social exclusion of migrants with irregular status and strengthening its network’s response. Through tailored capacity strengthening, members will be closely engaged, ensuring PICUM’s work supports and informs EU policy making in the areas of poverty and social inclusion, labour migration and markets, fair working conditions, child poverty and well-being, health care and social service provision at the national and EU levels. PICUM will continue to develop and disseminate the cross border evidence base it has created in recent years to contribute to enhanced knowledge and understanding of good practices and promote policies that strive for an inclusive Europe. Building on our increased presence in both mainstream and social media, we will seek to promote progressive narratives around migrants’ social inclusion. PICUM will deepen collaboration with allies and partners including other EU social networks, social service providers, social partners, as well as local authorities to monitor and promote social fairness and the inclusion of migrant communities in EU commitments under the European Pillar of Social Rights and European Semester. |
