The project involves the construction of 716 MW Lagoa dos Ventos wind farm in the municipalities of Lagoa do Barro do Piauí, Queimada Nova and Dom Inocêncio, in the northeastern state of Piauí in Brazil. The sponsor is Enel Spa (Italy) via its subsidiary Enel Green Power Brasil Participações Ltda. Enel will invest BRL 3 billion or $ 700 million financed from its own resources. 510 MW of the farm's capacity were awarded to Enel in Brazil’s A-6 public tender in December 2017. Enel has secured 20-year power supply contracts with distribution companies operating in Brazil’s regulated market. The remaining 206 MW of capacity will be delivered to the free market for sale to retail customers. Construction start was announced on 6 February 2019 and completion is expected during 2021.
