Description | The Brazilian company SANE Ltda. was granted authorization to build a small hydro power plant located in the state of Tocantins (25.6 MW in total capacity). The 30-year contract was signed with the federal regulatory agency ANEEL in February 2004. In July 2005, the power plant´s ownership control was transferred to Lagoa Energetica S.A., which had as shareholders Nova Vitoria Imobiliaria e Participacoes Ltda. (50%), Energetica Sao Patricio S.A. (25%) and Crema Participacoes e Investimentos (25%). Once more, the shareholders changed in June 2006, and Lagoa Grande Energetica shares were transferred to CR3 Agropecuaria e Participacoes Ltda. (24.03%), Energetica Sao Patricio (55%), Maua Empresa Brasileira de Participacoes Societarias Estruturadas Ltda. (13.75%) and small shareholders (7.22%). Lagoa Grande Energetica SA committed to invest US$ 45.8 million (BRL 100 million) in the construction of PCH Lagoa Grande. Financial closure was achieved in June 2006, when Lagoa Grande Energetica was granted a loan from the state-owned bank Caixa Economica Federal (amount of the loan was not disclosed). Construction works on this plant started in 2006, and the unit became operational in 2008. Lagoa Grande Energetica S.A. signed power purchase agreements with the state-owned company Eletrobras for 20 years through the Brazilian Federal program PROINFA (incentive program for alternative power generating companies).
