Description
Description | Lagos State has approved 14 electricity licences and permits covering off-grid generation, embedded generation, independent distribution networks, metering services, and interconnected mini-grid operations to strengthen power supply across the state. The initiative aims to create a more organised electricity market, attract investors, and improve power stability for residents and businesses. Specific projects include a 5.8MW off-grid power project by Axxela Limited for Cadbury Nigeria Plc, off-grid generation licences for Daybreak Power Solutions Limited serving several companies, a 9MW embedded generation project by Isolo Power Gen Limited, and approvals for metering and mini-grid services by New Hampshire Capital, GossLink Engineering, and Enaro Energy Mini-Grid Limited. The licensing framework is part of Lagos State's plan to decentralise electricity supply and boost access in industrial and peri-urban communities, with goals to achieve 97.5% electricity availability by 2030 and reduce market losses below 10%. Additional reforms include pilot 24/7 electricity franchise zones, Grid Interface Guidelines, a 100% metering initiative, consumer complaint centres, and an AI-powered metering system called Electric Eye of Lagos. |
