Description

Description

The City of LaGrange is considering leasing capped portions of the city landfill at 2233 Greenville Rd. to Groundswell for an 8.25 MW solar array. The project aims to reduce power bills for over 300 low-income households by providing affordable clean energy with no cost to the city or subscribers. The solar array would generate electricity for 25 years, with an estimated annual household savings of $1,100 and total energy savings of $330,000 per year. The project is partially funded by tax credits and a corporate anchor purchaser, Entegrity Energy Partners, which will buy electricity at an overpayment to support community benefits. Groundswell plans to lease 50 acres of the landfill on a 20-year lease with a five-year option. The project could be completed by the end of 2027 if approved.
