The City of Prince Albert constructed a new Aquatic and Arenas Recreation Centre, which has been formally named the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre. The scope of the project included approximately 78,000 square feet of arena space which includes 2 NHL sized rinks, dressing rooms, spectator areas, storage and upper foyer space; an approximately 47,000 square foot aquatic centre and approximately 14,000 square feet of public space which includes a concession, commercial space, washrooms and foyer space. The new facility will replace the Dave Steuart Arena, which has reached the end of its useful life. Both arenas will have a combined spectator viewing capacity of 973, which includes 774 seats plus wheelchair spaces and viewing area. The new facility will incorporate a number of energy efficient designs that have been shown to significantly reduce recreation facility energy consumption. These include, but are not limited to, subfloor heating using heat recovery, domestic hot water and surface water heating, energy efficient lighting systems and efficient refrigerant equipment.
