Lake Purdy Dam Renovation Project

delayed

The Lake Purdy Dam, a century-old dam and major water supplier to Birmingham-area suburbs, underwent a renovation project that was halted mid-construction. The project faced conflict, delay, and cancellation, with the current utility CEO canceling the project in late 2025, dismissing previous engineering assessments as questionable. The lawsuit alleges that halting construction mid-pour left the dam in a structurally more complex and vulnerable condition, posing a risk of catastrophic failure and loss of water supply for approximately 50% of customers.
