The overall project Water Supply and Environmental Protection Lake Shkodra, financed by KfW, SECO and ADA, includes the rehabilitation and expansion of the drinking water supply system, the partial rehabilitation and re-laying of the drinking water distribution networks, the installation of domestic water meters, the rehabilitation of parts of the sewage disposal network in the city of Shkodra, the extension of the existing disposal system to the village of Dobraçi, the implementation of a closed sewage disposal system and a sewage treatment plant in Shiroke, as well as the improvement of the operating equipment and institutional strengthening of the project sponsor UK Shkodra (UKS). The aim is to improve the quantity and quality of the water supply, to dispose of wastewater in a hygienic and ecologically safe manner, to prevent the discharge of wastewater into Lake Shkodra and to enable the project sponsor to operate the systems sustainably. The project is intended to contribute to improving the living conditions of the local population and to protecting natural water resources. The total costs amount to EUR 19.45 million will be financed from EUR 10.50 million in grant funds from KfW (EUR 7.50 million plus an additional EUR 3.00 million), from EUR 7.22 million in grant funds from SECO and from EUR 1.73 million in grant funds from ADA.
