Description
Description | The City of Lake Worth Beach implemented new residential building permit exemption requirements effective July 1, 2026, under Florida House Bill 803. This law allows some small residential projects on single-family homes valued at less than $7,500 to qualify for an exemption from the building permit process, provided that property owners or contractors submit a written exemption request and receive written approval before starting work. Projects that may qualify include interior painting, flooring replacement, cabinet replacement without relocating plumbing, drywall repairs, and other non-structural cosmetic improvements. Other projects like patios, walkways, fences, driveways, gazebos, pergolas, and certain sheds may be exempt from building permits but could still require zoning permits. The exemption is not automatic, and projects in flood hazard areas or involving work regulated by the Florida Building Code are not eligible. Permits are still required for electrical, plumbing, structural, mechanical, HVAC, gas work, and commercial property work. Starting work without approved exemption may result in code enforcement action and administrative fees. |
