Description | The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) inaugurated its largest solar-powered water supply project in Africa, providing reliable access to safe water for an estimated 77,000 residents in Lalibela, Ethiopia. The project was launched over three years ago to address severe water shortages caused by hostilities and unreliable power supply. The system features lower operating costs and a reduced environmental footprint due to solar power. Fifteen water utility staff have been trained to operate and maintain the system, which has been handed over to local authorities. The ICRC will continue monitoring and providing technical support for six months. |
