Description

Description

This bridge (185-5033-0; Lamar Street over Sugar Creek in Lowndes County) was built in 1970. The existing bridge consists of a single timber beam span with a timber deck and timber piles with timber cap abutment walls. Timber components of the bridge have advancing deterioration (timber decay) to the point that the county recently closed the bridge in January 2026. The Office of Bridge Design and Maintenance does not recommend this bridge for replacement at this time due to ongoing project priority reevaluation. The project priority reevaluation process compares a set of bridges using criteria such as traffic volume, cost, scour evaluation, bridge condition, and posting status. Rehabilitative work such as timber component repairs are suggested to keep the bridge in a state of good repair.
