The Land Settlement and Development Project for Kenya will assist in the development of farms to be settled by African farmers in areas of Kenya. This project will settle land over a three-year period (July 1961 through June 1964), subdivision, further development and settlement at an aggregate cost of approximately 8.76 million. It will consist of more than one million acres planted for crops, grazing, and the upkeep of forests. The high potential areas are favored with rich volcanic soils, high elevations, adequate rainfall, and moderate temperatures, which will provide a natural environment for high capacity agriculture. The annual gross value of production on the lands to be settled will increased from an estimated 900,000 to 3,600,000, or a gain of 2,700,000. The lands to be purchased will have a high potential for further improvement and will provide progress, growth and expansion for Kenya's economy.
