Description

Description

US renewable natural gas (RNG) developer-operator Viridi Energy has started construction of a landfill gas-to-RNG facility at the City of Lincoln's Bluff Road Landfill in Nebraska. The facility will capture methane generated by the landfill and upgrade it into pipeline-quality RNG for injection into Black Hills Energy's natural gas distribution network. It is designed to process around 3,000 standard cubic feet per minute of landfill gas and produce enough RNG to meet the annual heating demand of about 12,000 homes. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by capturing methane that would otherwise be flared or released and replacing conventional fossil natural gas with a lower-carbon alternative. The facility is expected to begin operating in the first quarter of 2027 and create construction and long-term operational jobs.
