Larimar Wind Farm

The Dominican Republic power generator Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina S.A. (EGE Haina) announced the development of the Larimar wind farm, located in the village of Enriquillo, Barahona province (49.5 MW in capacity). EGE Haina was established as a 50/50 partnership of the Haina Investment Company (a joint venture between Basic Energy [75.6%] and CAREC [24.4%]) and the national government. The investment in the wind farm was estimated at US$ 204.5 million. The project was originated as EGE Haina's initiative and the licence was awarded by the regulatory agency in June 2015. The project was granted a long-term power-purchase agreement the state-owned electricity distribution company Corporacion Dominicana de Empresas Eléctricas Estatales (CDEEE). As of August 2015, 70% of the construction works had been concluded. Commercial operations were scheduled to begin in 2016.
