Economic/Social Impact of the Project LATA-TAPOVAN H.E. Project [171 MW capacity] is a run of river scheme [on Dhauliganga river] and is located in approx. 25 Km from Joshimath in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. On allotment of this project by the then Govt. of Uttaranchal [GOUA] in August 2003, NHL [NTPC Hydro Ltd.] had taken up the site specific studies & Investigations for preparation of DPR and establishing Techno-Economic viability. The Project Implementation Agreement was signed between NHL and GoUA in Nov. 2005. Cost per MW of the project was decided to be 4.63 Crore. The DPR for this project was formulated and pre-requisite project/site specific clearances including Techno- Economic and Environmental Clearances were obtained. The project shall be developed as a regional power station with 12percentage free power. But, the project has been suspended by the order of Supreme Court of India since 2014 [by order dated 07.05.2014] and the matter is still pending in the court.
