With this proposal of the Action Latvian Internet Association (LIA) with partners The State Inspectorate for Protection of Children's Rights (SIPCR) and The Local Government Training Centre (LGTC) will continue to ensure the work of Safer Internet Centre (SIC) in Latvia and contribute to the European efforts to work for Better Internet for Kids. SIC will contribute to the core service platform on European scale - sharing the results, best practices, developed tools and methods, inserting hotline reports to existing databases and sharing helpline statistics. Nationally SIC will serve the society as the only contact point in Latvia addressing the internet safety for children and promoting better internet for kids. Project has set a goal to serve the society as a leading expert regarding internet safety for children and ensure the excellent quality of all the services provided to the society. The work of SIC involves three main components: 1. Awareness raising and education/training to empower children, their parents and educators to be aware of online risks and to make the best use of internet. Awareness tools, resources and methods will be developed in cooperation with stakeholders. Awareness activities will be closely coordinated with INSAFE; 2. Work of hotline – to receive and manage reports on child sexual abuse and exploitation materials and breaches online; and contribute to removal of such content closely cooperating with Law Enforcement Agencies and Internet Service Providers. The work of hotline is operated by LIA - certified member of INHOPE association since year 2007; 3. Work of helpline – ensuring telephone and online service where children can call and receive psychological help about harmful contact, conduct, and content online. The work of helpline is ensured by SIPCR – the main helpline in Latvia for minors which is also a member of Child Helpline International 116111. Latvian SIC has a strong support from relevant stakeholders.
