Transpower, the owner and operator of New Zealand's electricity grid, has implemented a radically transparent approach to grid connection approvals by making the connection queue public and updated monthly. This transparency has reduced connection approval times from 48 months to 12 months, with goals to further reduce generator approvals to six months and load approvals to three months. The approach involves requiring projects to enter the queue with significant preparatory work already completed.
