Description | Lavasa is India's first planned hill city. The project faced a halt in construction due to lack of proper environmental clearance and violations of environmental laws. The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) stopped work on the site in November last year and has denied environmental clearance until credible action is taken by the Maharashtra state government against the violations. The ministry set pre-conditions for clearance including credible action by the state government, a resolution from Lavasa's board to not repeat violations, adherence to Hill Station Regulations, and earmarking at least 5% of the project cost for corporate social responsibility and penalties. |
