Description | Lavasa is India's first planned hill city. The project faced a halt in construction due to lack of proper environmental clearance and violations of environmental laws. The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has denied environmental clearance until the Maharashtra state government takes credible action against the developers for these violations. The ministry set pre-conditions for clearance including credible action by the state government, a resolution from Lavasa's board to not repeat violations, adherence to Hill Station Regulations, and earmarking at least 5% of the project cost for corporate social responsibility and penalties. |
