Law and Gender, Intersectionality and Diversity (LAWGID) is a two-year joint master program, offering 120 ECTS. The partner universities – University of Belgrade (UB) (Coordinating Institution, CI), Örebro University (ORU), and Libera Università Maria SS. Assunta di Roma (LUMSA) – have jointly designed a fully integrated program in English. The first LAWGID semester will be held at UB, the second at LUMSA, and the third at ORU. A Master Thesis will be written during the fourth semester. The anticipated number of enrolled students per LAWGID program edition is 12-13 EMJM scholarship holders and 10 students with tuition fees, per partner university. The aim of the LAWGID program is to elaborate and demonstrate the importance of gender-competent legal knowledge and education. LAWGID will demonstrate, as the expression “intersectionality” suggests, how gender-based discrimination has always been combined with other discriminatory bases. These include class, race, sexual or religious orientation, ethnicity, cultural set-up, disability, age, etc. The term “diversity” demonstrates a readiness for acknowledging differences, particularly with regard to discrimination, among women and feminist movements from different parts of the world, as well as an openness for non-binary identities. LAWGID will offer legal knowledge from a gender perspective, based on intersectionality and diversity. The outcomes of LAWGID are relevant for the creation, interpretation and implementation of the law, and for decision- and policy-making related to politics, economics, social security, media, culture, etc. This knowledge and competencies are also relevant for international and national organizations and NGOs that deal with issues of peacebuilding, aid and development, human rights, and gender substantive equality. The long-lasting aim is to boost legal and political practices oriented towards overcoming multiple gender-based discrimination and advancing substantive gender equality.
