The port of Lazaro Cardenas was the largest Mexican seaport and one of the largest seaports in the Pacific Ocean basin in 2013, located in Michoacan State, with an annual traffic capacity of around 25 million tonnes of cargo and 2,200,000 TEU's (2013). It was comprised of public and private terminals. Among the public terminals there were: grain, multi-purpose and container terminals. This project refers to the third multi-use terminal of the port, some other terminals of the port are included under different project numbers. Lazaro Cardenas Third Multipurpose Terminal (LCMT) was a multipurpose terminal located in the port of Lazaro Cardenas. It had a total area of 19.6 hectares, a 286 metre berth with depth alongside of 14 metres. Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) won a 30-year concession to operate the third multi-use terminal at Lazaro Cardenas port in November 2012. HPH was expected to invest some US$59.5million (784 million pesos) in the terminal. In May 2013 the terminal was already operational. HPH carried out an equipment installation phase that included the installation of 30 forklifts, 10 tractors and 10 grain trucks. HPH also operated one of Lazaro Cardenas' container terminals.
