Description
Description | Lebanon is in the midst of multiple crises. As a result of the economic and financial crisis and the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a lack of employment opportunities for needy Lebanese and refugees, which is increasingly leading to social tensions between the Lebanese themselves and between them and the refugee population. Lebanon's public water sector was already in a desolate state before the refugee crisis. The infrastructure was and still is in urgent need of rehabilitation and expansion in many communities. The project aims to improve the living conditions and prospects of needy Lebanese and refugees in host communities in Lebanon by improving the target group's access to short-term, decent employment and by improving the water and sewage infrastructure. The target groups benefiting from the measure are both the Lebanese population in the host communities and Syrian and Palestinian refugees. The main measures of the project are the construction of water and sewage infrastructure to improve the supply situation and reduce environmental hazards in socially particularly vulnerable areas in Lebanon. In addition, at least 4,000 job opportunities will be created as part of the labor-intensive implementation of the infrastructure measures. UNICEF is the sponsor and recipient of the FC measure. |
