Description
Description | As part of the Facility for Stabilization and Transition (TAHIL), a project to promote non-formal education is to be implemented in Lebanon. The aim of this project is to provide particularly vulnerable children and young people who have not yet had access to the formal education system or other informal support offers with access to education through non-formal educational offers tailored to their individual needs. The majority of the children and young people supported should then be integrated into the formal school system or be able to better master their everyday situation based on the knowledge they have acquired (module objective). This is intended to contribute to stabilizing the living conditions of Syrian refugee children and young people as well as needy Lebanese children and thus also reduce their vulnerability (overarching development policy objective). Furthermore, the local potential for conflict between refugees and host communities over access to social services is reduced. The FC project is aimed at all age groups between 5 and 24 years and includes the following central components (1) pre-school classes to prepare children aged 5 to 6 for entry into the formal system; (2) courses to promote basic writing and arithmetic skills for 6 to 14 year olds and (3) secondary school support or teaching of basic vocational skills for older students (15-24 years). In addition, minor renovations of the teaching area, transport support to the classrooms and accompanying legal advice for the affected refugee families are planned. The direct target group comprises a total of around 11,000 children and young people who have not yet been integrated into the formal school system. The measures are to be implemented in the governorates of the Bekaa Valley, North and South Lebanon. In the Bekaa Valley and North Lebanon, the number of refugees and Lebanese living below the poverty line is particularly high. In addition, around 16,200 students will benefit from an improved learning environment thanks to the selective rehabilitation of school buildings. The total cost is EUR 10 million and is to be financed entirely from the German FZ contribution. The implementation period extends over three school years. The inventory review part of a further EUR 10 million can be used to finance a continuation of the project within the target region and an expansion to other affected regions of the country. |
