The overall objective of the project LBTIQ*WOMEN*ACTIVE is to enhance the inclusion and participation of LBTIQ+ women in European grassroots sport. The project advocates for equal opportunities for LBTIQ+ women in sport, and brings together LBTIQ+ women active in grassroot sport to examine their access, participation and visibility in grassroots sport, examining the challenges and barriers associated with each aspect. The project will raise awareness of the experiences of LBTIQ+ women in grassroots sport, provide experiential data about LBTIQ+ women's experiences in grassroot sport, and explore themes of inclusivity in a workshop setting. Active participation is a core aspect of the project and we will connect with local activity groups to experience first-hand what inclusion in sport feels like. The project is proposed by a consortium of 6 grassroot sport organisations who work in the field of inclusion and diversity, who are eager to explore and propose innovative and inclusive approaches to promoting equality and European values in and through sport and upholding the values of inclusion, diversity, equality, a respect for human and minority rights, and by so doing, increasing the participation and equal access to sport for all women. Through a series of workshops and activity days in different European countries we will mobilise and engage with local sporting communities, explore themes of inclusion and how to mobilise LBTIQ+ women in sport, propose innovative approaches for how to make our LGBTQI and mainstream clubs more diverse and welcoming for all women. The outputs will offer insight into methods used during the project for theoretical and practical approaches to equality and inclusion in sport and a more personal narrative approach to the benefits of being able to practice sport as your authentic self in a welcoming and nurturing environment.
