The Leander Springs project is a planned development near Leander, Texas, announced in 2021. It was proposed to include 1,600 apartments, a hotel and convention center, 1 million square feet of retail space, and a four-acre tropical lagoon. The project has faced numerous delays and setbacks, including owing millions to contractors and losing its incentive agreement. The developers sought an update to the planned unit development (PUD) agreement to allow for more commercial, office, and retail uses, reduce multifamily units to 1,200, limit building heights, and update the hotel timeline. The lagoon was reclassified as a non-essential use, and the developer is no longer working with the original lagoon design company. The planning and zoning commission voted to deny the PUD amendment, and the project is scheduled for a City Council vote.
