Objectives - Facilitate networking and co-operation between criminal justice experts to build the capacity of civil society in member states to protect the rule of law - Inform domestic implementation of EU laws creating rights for persons suspected or accused of crimes (EU Fair Trial Rights) - Facilitate exchanges of information on law and practice on EU Fair Trial Rights between experts, national authorities and EU institutions - Promote EU Fair Trial Rights, informing possible future EU actions or initiatives Expected results - Reduced risk of of breaches of EU Fair Trial Rights - Increased engagement of criminal justice experts in implementing EU Fair Trial Rights and informing possible EU future actions or initiatives - Improved exchange of comparative law and best practice between Member States - Better informed criminal justice experts with the expertise and capacity to advance EU Fair Trial Rights and the rule of law - Better informed public on EU access to justice legislation Activities - Meetings and events - Research and monitoring - Peer support and exchange - Publications and public information Type and number of persons benefiting from activities - 209 LEAP members - 60 EU policy makers - 150 domestic policymakers, judges, prosecutors and police officers - 280 suspects, accused people and victims Type and number of deliverables 1.
