Learning Aids for differently-abled students

To improve the learning experience and overall quality of life of our students who are differently-abled. Our student community has several members with difficulty in movement. The mobile battery-operated carts and mechanized wheelchairs will help our students with locomotory disabilities navigate smoothly in our classroom facilities at Nalanda and Vikramshila complexes. Both venues are equipped with ramps that will ensure the smooth operation of these vehicles. Students with visual impairment, particularly ones with blurred vision will be benefited through the use of text to speech devices that will enable them to overcome their handicap and keep up with their classmates. Blind or near-blind students, though small in number, will have the braille printers as a central facility that they can rely upon. The Institute at present does not have such a printer, a shortcoming that we intend to overcome through this project. Finally, we have several students who suffer from hearing disability. To help such students, we intend to get the sound-amplifying hearing aids that can be distributed among the students for use throughout their student life at IIT Kharagpur.
