Description
Description | The civil war in Syria, which has been going on since 2011, has caused massive refugee movements to neighboring countries. The high number of refugees is increasing the already high pressure on resources there and making access to basic services more difficult, especially for the poor population. The Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan, which were already heavily overloaded, are also affected. The aim of the FC measure is to strengthen the resilience of Palestinian refugees and to maintain their access to basic services (education and health). This will help to stabilize the countries neighboring the Syrian crisis and reduce the impact on the refugees. Due to the spread of the coronavirus, coupled with the full-blown economic crisis in Lebanon and the acute financial shortage of the UN relief agency UNRWA, the supply of basic services to the Palestinian refugee population is currently at acute risk, particularly in Lebanon. As part of the increase in the project, the focus will therefore also be on ensuring basic care during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Lebanon and Jordan. Both UNRWA teaching and health staff in Lebanon and UNRWA teaching staff in Jordan will be financed. This will give Palestinian refugees from Syria and Palestinian refugees in the host countries access to schooling in UNRWA-run schools and access to basic medical care in UNRWA health centers. The measure will therefore also contribute to stability in the refugee camps by supporting UNRWA in meeting its funding needs for health and education. |
