Description | The Roxbury Group and Ethos Development Partners are planning to redevelop Lee Plaza, at 2240 W. Grand Blvd. in Detroit. Constructed in 1927 as an upscale apartment hotel, the 16-story building was converted to senior public housing in 1969 after experiencing a big drop in occupancy in the wake of the 1967 Detroit riot. It has been abandoned since 1997 and vandalized. The project’s $59-million first phase is expected to start in October 2022 and finish in 2024 with the creation of 117 new affordable residences for income-qualified seniors on floors two through 10. A $20-million second phase would create 60 to 70 market-rate apartments on floors 11 through 16, with an expected completion in 2025. |
