Ecosystems and their services are the basis of human existence and economic activity, but are threatened by growing human influence. 1 million species are threatened with extinction. Rural communities and indigenous populations would lose their livelihoods as a result. Many ODA countries still have the last remaining wilderness areas with significant concentrations of endemic species and regionally and globally important ecosystems. Effectively managed protected areas are generally recognized as the most effective instrument for protecting important landscapes, their biodiversity and their ecosystem services. If the protected areas are appropriately managed and protected while respecting the rights and needs of local communities, an important part of the earth's biodiversity can be preserved. Protecting intact ecosystems can also make an important contribution to preventing the spread of zoonoses. The core problem is the lack of sufficient funding for the most important natural landscapes (legacy landscapes) in the poorer countries of the global south. The project aims to secure the long-term basic financing of globally important landscapes through a financial transfer from industrialized countries, fed jointly by public and philanthropic sources, strengthen their management and thus make a significant contribution to the preservation of global biodiversity. It makes a significant contribution to the protection of globally important, primarily terrestrial ecosystems. The module objective is On the basis of annual grants from the LLF Foundation, professional partnerships in ODA countries manage selected legacy landscapes efficiently and sustainably. The recipient of the funds and sponsor of the measure is the non-profit foundation International Natural Heritage Fund / Legacy Landscapes Fund, founded in December 2020.
