BIRDS DON’T LOOK BACK (LES OISEAUX NE SE RETOURNENT PAS in French) is a feature-length animated film by director Nadia Nakhlé. A brilliant and protean young artist, she approaches through this first film a topic that is both personal and in strong resonance with current events: the plight of war refugees. The strength of this proposal, beyond its profound universality, lies in the point of view adopted: the view of a child fleeing her country. As : “One day, the decision is made: Amel, a 12-year-old orphan, will leave. This is by no means a matter of choice: her country is at war. Unfortunately, nothing goes as planned. At the border, Amel loses the family who are accompanying her and finds herself alone. Along her way, she meets Bacem, an army deserter and oud (oriental lute) player. Together, the child and the former soldier navigate through the pain of exile and learn to rebuild themselves”. The artistic and editorial ambitions of the film being extremely important, it is natural for us to co-develop and co-produce this film with European partners in order to give it all the resources necessary for a high exposure. Thanks to a close collaboration between Special Touch Studios and Creative Touch Studios in France, Paul Thiltges Distributions in Luxembourg and Animoon in Poland, the project is fully in line with a logic of international collaboration both from an artistic and financial point of view. The main objective of this European co-development action is to bring the development of the film to a successful conclusion in the best possible conditions. With the aim of launching the production in 2025. For this, several stages are still planned: writing, graphic research, feasibility study, search for funding, promotion in festivals, creation of the storyboard and the animatic will be key phases to work on to reach our objectives.
