"The project: ""Les rencontres du 50ème Vendôme Gevelsberg: le geste et la parole"" (Encounters of the 50th anniversary Vendôme Gevelsberg - gestures and words) is part of a process of intercultural dialogue, a key element in the democratic management of a growing cultural diversity in Europe (2008 white paper on intercultural dialogue). ""Intensify Citizens’ Dialogues and encourage public debates, to improve public understanding of the impact of the EU on citizens’ daily lives and to encourage an exchange of views with citizens” (EU Citizenship Report 2020). On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the twinning between Vendôme and Gevelsberg, the City of Vendôme is inviting, from 18th to 21st May 2023, 500 Gevelsbergers, citizens, associative and political actors, as well as delegations from its twin towns: Szprotawa and Butera. The twinning between Vendôme and Gevelsberg, which is part of a long history that coincides with the officialization of the Franco-German friendship, is reexamining its dynamism and its future with the organisation of its 50th anniversary. If the Vendôme Gevelsberg twinning relies on the local actors of the two cities: local authorities, associations, institutional actors, the project seeks to initiate and establish new partnerships that respond to the values of the European foundation in terms of democracy and fundamental rights. The 50th anniversary project allows to update the themes and to raise the citizens' awareness on current European issues. The project's programme offers many opportunities for encounters in various forms before, during and after the event: the activities organised and proposed should encourage four-handed production (the gesture) or two-headed production: workshops, debates (the word), etc. "
