Lesotho - Mpharane-Bela Bela Road Project

The present project concerns Mpharane-Bela Bela Road Upgrading Project. It aims to provide all-weather access to the agricultural areas of Mpharane, Corn-Exchange, Kolojane, St Theresa and Bela Bela which in turn would introduce more opportunities for economic growth. The project is designed to assist the rural people through increased access to markets and basic social services at lower costs, facilitate and improve traffic movements to and from the region, reduce vehicle operating costs and maintenance costs. The project comprises three key components, namely: 1) civil works through upgrading of 25 km of existing gravel road to a Class B bitumen road standard of a width of 7.0m carriageway and 1.0m paved shoulders on either side; 2) consultant services for pre-contract and supervision services of the above civil works; and 3) project audit services.
