Description
Description | South African utility Eskom is starting construction of a 75-MW solar farm at its Lethabo coal-fired power station in the Free State province. This project is part of a broader initiative to integrate renewable generation into Eskom's existing power fleet infrastructure. The project requires an investment of ZAR 1.2 billion (USD 73.3 million) and is expected to generate about 147 GWh annually, supplying power to around 60,000 households. It marks the first step in integrating 17 renewable energy and storage projects within existing coal-fired power station infrastructure through 2028, aiming to provide around 6 GW of new generation capacity by 2030 across multiple power plants. |
