Description

Description

DCU proposes to create EU-LPF-Law, a Jean Monnet Module to study “Levelling the Playing Field in EU Trade and Competition Law”. It will be a foundational full-year course including 44h of in-class teaching and 6h of exchanges during high-level policy events that will be held in autumn and spring of the Academic Year. The course will also employ open educational resources. With a strong interdisciplinary grounding in law, politics, and political economy, this module will be divided into two parts, first focusing on EU trade law and policy and second on EU competition law and policy. It will focus on practical legal, economic, and policy issues in these two fields. In preparation for the program events, students will work on case-studies that require EU policy and legal analyses. The module will be delivered by Niall Moran, who is Assistant Professor at the School of Law and Government, DCU and Deputy Director of the DCU Brexit Institute. Dr. Moran has a very European CV including degrees from Ireland, France and Italy. Before joining DCU, he worked as a Law Lecturer in London as well as in the EU institutions where he specialised in the area of economic law including working on trade negotiations, the enforcement of trade agreements, and the finalisation of legislation. The course EU-LPF-Law will be offered within DCU’s Master of Law (LLM), and Master in Public Policy (MPP) as a specialised module that will complement DCU’s general EU studies curriculum. This Module will be connected with other initiatives in EU affairs at DCU, i.e. the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence REBUILD, a 3-year research project on the EU post-pandemic recovery plan that will overlap with EU-LPF-LAW, leveraging the existing expertise of DCU. The results of EU-LPF-Law activities will be disseminated to a wide and diverse audience drawing on Dr. Moran’s networks. The module coordinator will reflect upon the main findings with at least one peer-reviewed article during the grant period.
