Description
Description | DartPoints Operating Company purchased a former Lexmark property at 745 W. New Circle Road for $29 million on May 15, 2026. The site spans nearly 30 acres with over 345,000 square feet and currently has 20 to 30 megawatts of capacity, with potential expansion to 70 megawatts. The company plans to develop the site for AI and other power-intensive customers. However, a moratorium was approved by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council on June 9, 2026, blocking data center development plans, approvals, and zone changes in Fayette County through October 31, 2026. DartPoints has not applied for zoning compliance or certificate of occupancy before the moratorium, so it cannot currently operate at the site. Proposed zoning amendments would prohibit major data centers larger than 50,000 square feet anywhere in Fayette County and restrict data centers from being built within 1,000 feet of residential zones, agricultural zones outside the urban service boundary, schools, daycares, or childcare facilities. DartPoints plans to invest approximately $1.05 billion in the facility, with $300 million initially and up to $750 million as power capacity increases. The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on July 30, 2026, on the draft amendment before final council review. |
