The measurement of digital platform employment is a growing priority in EU labour market statistics. As non-traditional work arrangements become more prevalent, policymakers and researchers require comprehensive, reliable, and internationally comparable data to assess their impact on labour market. While elements of digital platform work have been explored in various surveys and research studies, there remains a data gap in the systematic measurement of these employment forms in a harmonised way across EU Member States. The 2026 EU-LFS module on digital platform employment (DPE) aims to address this gap by introducing new variables and improved methodologies to capture the prevalence, characteristics, and working conditions of individuals engaged in digital platform employment. The specific objectives of this project are - Implementation of the 2026 LFS variables on digital platform employment, ensuring full compliance with Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2887. The project will incorporate related Eurostat’s methodological explanations to enhance data accuracy and ensure comparability across Member States. - Quality data collection processes to improve measurement of non-traditional employment, including the development and testing of the ad hoc module on digital platform employment. This will address challenges related to detection of DPE and clarity of the questionnaire, as well as the challenges in training of the interviewers. - Timely and high-quality data transmitted to Eurostat, ensuring that the collected data is delivered within the required timeframe and meets quality standards. The project will also produce a comprehensive quality report, assessing the accuracy, completeness, and comparability of the collected data. By achieving these objectives, the project will contribute to closing the data gap on digital platform employment, ensuring that labour force statistics remain relevant, reliable, and responsive to emerging trends.
