L.G. Balakrishnan & Bros Limited (LGB or the company), is a leading Indian manufacturer of auto and light engineering components. LGB has three manufacturing divisions - transmission, metal forming, and forging and machining. Based in Coimbatore, the Company has 11 manufacturing facilities, all located within India.LGB’s facilities in Tamil Nadu include: a machine tool making plant in Coimbatore, transmission chain plants in Annur, Vaiyapalam and Fine products in Pongalur, cold forging in Kpalayam, a rubber belt plant in Karur, and a machine component plant in Sengalipalayam. LGB’s facilities in Karnataka include a chain plant and MGM warm and hot forging plants in Mysore, and Apten hot and warm forgings in Bangalore. The Company acquired the MGM (Mysore) and Apten (Bangalore) plants in June 2004. At these facilities, LGB also has in house tooling and machining capabilities including design, manufacture and replacement.Under the project, the company proposes to expand capacity:- Metal Forming Division (fine, conventional and precision blanking); and - Forging and Machining Division (cold, warm and hot forgings). The capacity expansions are planned at the company’s existing facilities in Forging and Machining besides a green-field hot and warm forging plant at P’Palayam near Coimbatore. The proposed IFC financing will be used as partial funding for the project.
