Description | In July of 1997, Sino-French Holdings was awarded a 30-year BOT contract for the construction and operation of a new 100,000 cubic meters/day capacity potable water treatment plant in Lianjiang, Guangdong province. The contract also included extensions to the mains and distribution networks and was to serve 1.3 million residents. To implement the contract, Lianjiang Sino French Water Supply Co. Ltd was created as the project company which was owned by Sino-French (60%) and the state-owned Lianjiang Tap Water Company (40%). Sino-French, in turn, was a joint venture company owned 50% by Suez water subsidiary Ondeo and 50% by New World Infrastructure of Hong Kong. The total cost of the project was RMB 125 million (US$16.69 million). Degremont was to build the plant over 18 months.
