Description

Description

The Libelula project is a 350-MW hybrid solar and battery energy installation located 40 km north of Santiago in the Santiago Metropolitan Region. It combines 151 MWp of solar photovoltaic capacity with a 199-MW lithium-ion battery system capable of five-hour discharge. The development includes a new substation and a 16-km, 220-kV high-voltage transmission line connecting to the El Manzano substation. The solar farm will consist of 245,560 solar panels held by Nextracker’s low-carbon steel trackers, using 2,311 NX Horizon trackers manufactured in the United States, reducing related emissions by around 30%. It is the first large-scale solar plant in Latin America to incorporate NX Horizon equipment. The project is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2026 and supply clean energy to over 120,000 households. It is part of Engie Chile's target to reach 3.5 GW of installed capacity by 2027, with over 60% from renewables and battery storage.
