Description
Description | As part of the project, a financial contribution will be made to the multilateral Liberia Reconstruction Trust Fund (LRTF) (Phase V). In the future, the LRTF will primarily be used to finance a project to improve the road network in southeastern Liberia (Ganta-Tappita-Zwedru). The aim of the measure is, on the one hand, to improve the population's access to a road that can be used all year round, and on the other hand, to strengthen the capacities of the responsible institutions in the transport sector for the sustainable operation and maintenance of the Liberian road network. Overall, the projects financed by the LRTF are intended to improve the living conditions of the population and contribute to creating the basis for the economic and social development of Liberia (program objective). The selection of the measures to be financed from the Trust Fund is based on the Liberian development strategy Agenda for Transformation (2012-2017). The LRTF is managed by the World Bank (WB), and the road construction project is being implemented by the Infrastructure Implementation Unit (IIU) in the Ministry of Public Works (MPW). To date, funds amounting to EUR 1.2 billion have been provided. paid the equivalent of around USD 196.2 million into the LRTF. As a founding member of the fund, Germany has so far paid a total of EUR 44.0 million into the fund via KfW. In addition to the World Bank's own contribution of USD 3.0 million, the EU contributed around USD 79.9 million, the United Kingdom around USD 31.5 million, Sweden around USD 18.1 million, Norway around USD 2.5 million and Ireland around USD 2.8 million. Further contributions have so far only been announced by Great Britain (GBP 4.0 million, around USD 5.3 million). Further FC contributions of EUR 14.0 million are the subject of this audit report. In addition, further funds are required to implement the measures to be financed from the LRTF, in particular for the road construction project in the southeast. This requirement could be met by further FC commitments amounting to EUR 1.0 million. up to EUR 50.0 million can be partially covered (stock check). |
