As part of the project, a financial contribution will be made to the multilateral Liberia Reconstruction Trust Fund (LRTF) (Phase VI). In the future, the LRTF will primarily be used to finance a project to improve the road network in southeast Liberia. The aim of the measure is, on the one hand, to improve the population's access to a road that can be used all year round, and, on the other, to strengthen the capacities of the relevant institutions in the transport sector for the sustainable operation and maintenance of the Liberian road network. Overall, the projects financed by the LRTF are intended to improve the living conditions of the population and contribute to creating the basis for the economic and social development of Liberia (program objective). The selection of the measures to be financed from the Trust Fund is based on the Liberian development strategy. The LRTF is managed by the World Bank (WB); to date, funds amounting to around 218 million US dollars have been paid into the LRTF by various donors (in particular the EU, Germany, Great Britain, Sweden).
