Description
Description | The Liberty Gardens project is a proposed 50-unit affordable housing development in Southampton, intended for low income residents and disabled veterans. The project includes rental units with rates affordable to those earning 60% of the area median income, with half the units reserved for people diagnosed with mental illness and 13 units set aside for military veterans. The project secured $30 million in grant funding from Suffolk County and New York State and underwent environmental analysis and public hearings. However, the Southampton Town Board rejected the project in 2024, leading to a discrimination lawsuit by the developer, Concern for Independent Living. |
