Description
Description | In 2001, the Butler County Transportation Improvement District (TID) and Butler County Commissioners (BCC) agreed to begin working on an interchange at the end of State Route 129 (SR 129) at Interstate 75 (I-75), along with the auxiliary road improvements around the interchange. The interchange was reconstructed to allow an eastward movement through a collector-distributor connection with Liberty Way. After conducting an environmental study from Tylersville Road to just south of State Route 63 and Cincinnati-Dayton Road to Butler-Warren Road, the project received approval from the Federal Highway Administration. The project was a collaborative effort in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana Regional Council of Governments, Liberty Township, West Chester Township, and Board of Chief Elected Officials. In addition to the interchange, the TID moved forward with local roadway improvements around the area. Created in 1993, the TID is a jointly governed organization - both corporate and political - given the powers to finance, construct, maintain, repair, and operate transportation systems. The TID includes all the territory within the following political subdivisions of Butler County: The City of Hamilton, the City of Fairfield, Fairfield Township, West Chester Township, and Liberty Township. The project included widening Liberty Way from Butler-Warren Road to Cincinnati-Dayton Road and extending Cox Road north approximately 2500 feet. ODOT was responsible for the main interchange and improvements to I-75. The TID completed financing for the project during 2007 and started right-of-way acquisition in 2006. The groundbreaking for the project was done in the fourth quarter of 2007. In 2008, the TID secured the right-of-way for the interchange construction project. Construction took two seasons and the project was completed and open to traffic in October 2009. The local governments had revenue contribution agreements in place to cover the debt service. During 2015, the District started an interchange modification study to evaluate traffic patterns from development. |
