Description | AGL Energy is developing a 500 MW, 1000 MWh (1 GWh) battery energy storage system at the site of the shuttered Liddell coal plant in the Hunter Region, New South Wales. The project is being commissioned in stages, with the first stage of 250 MW and 500 MWh fully commissioned and the second stage commissioning underway, expected to complete by May 2026. The battery will help firm up the grid as coal exits and renewable energy increases, storing enough energy to power around 200,000 homes for two hours. |
