Description

Description

The LIFE Debris2Resource: Green Recovery Ukraine (LIFE D2R-GreenUA) project is a collaborative effort between Ukrainian and European partners aimed at addressing the immense challenge of managing construction debris caused by the Russian invasion. The main objective is to develop and implement systematic methods for the safe removal, sorting, and reuse of debris, focusing initially on the Kyiv region. This project will collaborate with the Ukrainian government, including the Ministries of Economy and Environment, and organizations like UNDP and JICA. The project will pilot in three cities (Irpin, Borodyanka, and Hostomel) to create a replicable debris management methodology (RDMM) and a circular comprehensive business model (CCBM) for turning construction waste into usable materials. It draws from international best practices and environmental standards, paying particular attention to hazardous substances like asbestos. The project also involves local and national policy development, capacity-building programs, and a final conference to disseminate results, featuring a strategy for replication across Ukraine. By focusing on circular economy principles, this initiative aims to aid Ukraine's reconstruction while fostering sustainable urban development, setting the foundation for long-term resilience and environmental sustainability.
