Description
Description | LIFE Water in Landscape and Soil (LIFE WILL) The aim of the LIFE WILL project is to increase the resilience of people and landscape to climate change by increasing the capacity of landscape and soil to retain water through ecosystem-based adaptation measures at the local level in Czech Republic, Slovakia and other EU countries. The aim is to demonstrate a complex participatory methodology engaging key local actors to overcome existing barriers at local level and strengthen their awareness and capacity to initiate and implement water retention measures at local level. The project will support adaptation to the effects of climate change, enhance biodiversity through nature-based retention measures, contribute to mitigating the causes of climate change through carbon sequestration and aims at improving climate management and information capacity especially at the level of local and regional administration. The project is implemented in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and plans to share widely the results, methodologies and policy recommendations in these two countries and in other EU countries with a similar historical background. The specific goal of the project is to: 1. Demonstrate an innovative participatory adaptation methodology for water retention in soil and landscape on a concrete example of 3 pilot sites of the Czech Republic and Slovakia (23km), in order to increase resilience to climate change effects (such as erosion, floods and droughts), enhance rural socioeconomic development, landscape resilience and biodiversity; and 2. Replicate in Czech Republic, Slovakia (30 locations) and promote in other EU countries the technical and methodological results achieved at the demonstration sites, as well as tools and participatory methodologies aimed at helping farmers, landowners, municipalities and the public to build their awareness and ability to implement effective adaptation measures through water retention in soil and landscape. |
