The project “Light Pollution” deals with the problem of light pollution and the preservation of the natural night sky, including the dark sky, in a common approach. Light pollution is harmful to the environment, affects nature, flora and fauna, harms people and their health and is also significantly uneconomical. The public does not know or underestimate this problem. The aim of the project is to establish a network of Czech and Bavarian specialised institutions from the subsidy area, which deal with the topic of light pollution, know the problem and try to solve it. These are, for example, astronomical societies, universities, associations dealing with astronomy and ecology. This network of institutions will develop effective and everywhere-usable practices to control light pollution, without looking at the border. On the basis of these procedures, the problem of light pollution is to be made known to the general public as possible. In addition, information and educational events are prepared and organised. These are primarily aimed at preventing light pollution and prevention (schools, adult organisations). They are also addressed to citizens and institutions who can act effectively on this issue. A very effective element will be the exhibitions, which will also be created within the framework of the project. In addition to classic exhibits, interactive elements including public lighting, lighting of objects, pedestrian crossings, etc. will be. In addition, two-page websites will be created and an information system for the communication and planning of actions involving the public will be prepared. The project will also host two conferences. The target group will be the general population to which all information and education activities will be directed, as well as public and private institutions about working in the network. The project will contribute to better information and information on light pollution and its negative effects on the environment, nature and people in the subsidy area. Citizens and institutions should act more sparingly in dealing with light in the future. If great importance is placed on this problem, the existing light pollution can be reduced in the future and above all new light pollution can be avoided. This will have a positive impact both on people’s and nature’s health, as well as in the economic field. The common approach on both sides of the subsidy area will highlight the Bavarian-Czech border area, which will bring further convergence and promotion of the tourism sector.
