Description

Description

The aim of the Lima Wastewater Disposal Project (SEDAPAL) is to sustainably increase the proportion of ecologically and hygienically safe purification of the collected wastewater as well as the amount of purified wastewater used for irrigation in the metropolis of Lima (FC module objective). The investment project includes the construction of a centrally located sewage treatment plant in the supply area of SEDAPAL, the water supplier of the Peruvian capital Lima, whose purified wastewater is to be used to irrigate parks and green spaces. The recycling of wastewater is intended to counteract potential user conflicts over the scarce water resources in the desert region. By contributing to the sustainable improvement of urban hygiene, the protection of water resources and adaptation to the consequences of climate change, the project makes a contribution to the development cooperation program objective and the implementation of the National Plan for Urban Water Management. The project should be carried out in co-finance with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which is financing the expansion of the water and sewage networks in the project region. However, this project component has long been completed. The total cost of building the sewage treatment plant has now risen to around USD 210 million, of which USD 48.66 million will be financed from the FC loan.
